Wingfield Sculls 2008
Mahe Drysdale and Sophie Hosking were victorious in this year’s Wingfield Sculls. The event, run on the Championship course from Putney to Mortlake, has taken place annually from the 1830 with breaks for the world wars.
In the women’s race there were five entries Katie Greves (Leander), Ruth Walczak (Molesey), Tina Stiller (Leander), Rosamund Bradbury (Westminster School) and Sophie Hosking (London RC). Unfortunately Bradbury and Walczak had to withdraw before the race but the other three scullers completed the course with Sophie Hosking finishing in 22:05 followed by the two Leander athletes Katie Greves (22:21) and Tina Stiller (22:27).
In the men’s race Mahe Drysdale succesfully defended his title winning in 21:14. He was pushed hard by Adam Freeman-Pask of Imperial College Boat Club, who were well represented by three scullers: Adam Freeman-Pask, George Whittaker and Simon Hislop. Completing the line up of the men’s was Richard Ockendon of Molesey BC.
