Young Sports Ambassador for Beijing

Junior Sports Ambassador

Runcorn Rowing Club’s Junior Captain, Amy Grieve, has just learned that she will be going to the Olympic Games as a Young Sports Ambassador.  Amy, in Year 11 at Frodsham College in Cheshire, found out on 13th May that she has been selected as one of only four young sports ambassadors to represent England at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Amy started volunteering to help encourage young people to take up sport through the Junior Sports Leaders Award. Encouraged by Val Edwards, who is a coach at Runcorn Rowing Club and a member of staff at the college, Amy helped youngsters through Project Oarsome to develop the skills and enthusiasm for rowing.

Amy was nominated by her school for the role of young ambassador. From over 1000 young people who were nominated, Amy was shortlisted by means of interviews and applications to twenty eight and then ten and then seven. The final seven went to the Olympic offices on 6th May. Here Amy gave a presentation and on 13th May she was told that she will be going to Beijing.
