Student Ross Davenport wins Janousek

In November 2007, Rowing & Regatta magazine offered ARA members an exclusive chance to win the 5000th Janousek racing boat – a single scull worth more than £5,000.

The boat is truly unique and sleek in appearance with a carbon wing rigger, carbon seat, New Wave shoes and a special paint design, as selected by the winner. It is also specially signed as the Janousek 5000, possibly making it a collectable item of the future.

Over 650 ARA members entered the competition and the lucky winner was Ross Davenport, who is studying at Manchester University. Ross is pictured receiving his boat from Di Ellis, ARA Chairman, and Philip Gregory, Managing Director and Master Boatbuilder of Janousek & Stampfli Racing Boats. Philip has personally built all of the 5000 Janousek boats since 1981 and nearly 1000 Stampfli composite boats since 1991. He and Di wished Ross many years of successful and enjoyable sculling.
