We’re Across The Line! Join us to look back on a roaring weekend of racing as we focus on all the action from the Remenham Challenge on the tideway.
Thames RC take top spots at Remenham Challenge
Thames RC stormed the 2025 Remenham Challenge, winning the Open and Women’s Championship Eight, and the overall Victor Ludorum.
The Remenham Challenge is raced annually from Chiswick Pier to the Putney embankment and comprises the seven founding clubs: London RC, Vesta RC, Thames RC, Twickenham, Kingston RC, Molesey BC, and Staines BC.
Thames RC won the Open Championship Eights by nearly two seconds, beating neighbours London RC into second place, while Molesey BC were just under seven seconds back in third place. On the Women’s side, Thames RC put two crews past Molesey BC, seeing the pendulum of momentum swing towards Putney embankment following a red-hot start to the season for the Molesey BC women.
Speaking after a strong set of results, Thames RC Head Coach Sander Smulders said, “We’re pretty happy with the progress we made this side of Christmas after a successful 2024/2025 Season.
“The results at Remenham Challenge across the board are very promising, and we’re looking forward to the second half of the winter!”
“It was great to round off the first few months of training with two wins in the Champ Eights at Remenham, along with winning the VL. Amazing, we are super chuffed. Remenham is a great event and we love taking part. There has been a fair bit of change at Thames RC this year, people have adapted quickly and really seized this opportunity. We are looking forward to the second half of winter,” echoed Women’s Captain Rosa Millard.
Across the Club Eights, success was celebrated by Molesey BC and London RC. The Molesey women reversed the Championship result as they won the category by three seconds ahead of Thames RC. London RC stepped up and won the Open Club Eight to go with their third-place finish in the women’s event. This continues a promising start for London in Club events, after winning the Open Quadruple Sculls, placing second and third in the Coxless Four, and second in the Coxed Four at Fours Head.
London RC’s other wins came in the Masters categories. Their Masters B Quadruple Scull was the quickest quad of the day, and their Women’s Masters A boat finished as the fastest women’s quad.
While Thames RC swept the Championship Eights, their next-door neighbours, Vesta RC, were the kings and queens of the Development Eights. Â The club dominated the event, placing first, second, and third in both the Open and Women’s categories.
Molesey BC would win the Open Masters Eights while Kingston RC would head back to their stretch of the Thames with the Women’s Masters Eight title.
