We’re Across The Line! Join us to look back on a thrilling weekend of rowing as Teddington Head and York Small Boats Head take centre stage.
Molesey BC conquer all at Teddington Head
Fresh off a dominant set of results for the Molesey BC women at Fours Head, the whole club dominated the top spots at Teddington Head. The women picked up from where they left off on the Tideway, with three of their crews on the podium in Band 1 Eights, while the men pipped Imperial College BC by one second to take the top spot in the Open equivalent. It’s a result that stands Imperial in good stead, having placed first and fifth in the Open Senior Coxless Fours last time out at Fours Head.
Across the eights, Shiplake College BC had a great day at the races. Who can forget their magical performances at the National Schools’ Regatta as well as Henley Royal Regatta, and some of that razzmatazz was on display in southwest London. It was first, third and seventh for the boys in Open Band 2 Eights as their J16s put five seconds into KCS Wimbledon BC to take the 16 title. Both crews were comfortably ahead of locals, Hampton School BC, who finished third. The Shiplake girls were the best of the rest behind the Molesey BC armada in Band 1 Eights.
While Shiplake College BC opted to race the seniors in Division 1, Westminster School BC won the Tideway derby that took place in Division 2. The boys in pink came out ahead of KCS Wimbledon BC by less than two seconds over the 5200m course that kicked off from Hampton Court Golden Gates. In his first year as Director of Rowing at KCS, Michael Glover put two crews past Dulwich College BC, who were fourth. In the women’s event, it was a Surbiton High School BC sandwich on the podium with Wimbledon High School BC taking second.
Dulwich would have their day, though, winning Junior Band 2 Eights by more than 50s.
The Open J15 Coxed Quads had 15 crews racing across its three bands, and it was Molesey BC’s juniors who took the top honours while Walbrook RC, hosts of Teddington Head, won the women’s J15 Band 1 event by well over a minute.

Royal Chester RC’s big day out at York Small Boats Head
The Small Boats Head is York City RC’s most popular event of the year, racing over 3,000m upstream from Fulford Landing to King’s Staith through the centre of York.
Royal Chester travelled en masse and had 46 crews racing across the day. Both their men and women left triumphant and with kit bags full of medals as the club won the Open and Women’s Band 1 Coxed and Coxless Fours. Led by Yorkshire native Ed Press, the men also took home the Band 1 Quadruple Sculls title. Loughborough Students Rowing Ltd won the women’s event.
At the other end of the boat classes, Vesta RC’s Izzy Maxwell continued her good form this season, winning the Women’s Single Scull by 18s ahead of Hollingworth Lake RC. While University of York BC won the Band 1 Open Single Scull, Berwick ARC’s Andrew Cairns won the Band 2 event in a time that would have placed him third overall in the Single Scull standings. Berwick ARC were also victorious in both the Band 1 and Band 2 Open J16 Single Scull events, and they dominated the Women’s J16 event too.
Across the day, the hosts would field some cracking Quadruple Sculls. York City RC won both the Open and Women’s J18 and 16 events. They also fielded some outstanding mixed crews, winning the Mixed Coxed Quad and the Mixed Masters D/F Coxless Quad. Not to be out done, the Women’s Masters squad got in on the winning too. They took gold in both the B/C/D event as well as the E/F category.
