Great Britain won two golds and a silver medal on the final day of the 2025 European Rowing Coastal and Beach Sprint Championships in Antalya, Türkiye. The wins came in the Coastal Men’s Solo (CM1x) and U19 Coastal Men’s Solo (CJM1x), while the silver was won in the Coastal Women’s Solo (CW1x).

James Cox got off to a good start in the Coastal Men’s Solo (CM1x) final and held off a late charge from Spain’s Ander Martin to reach the buzzer first and take the European crown.

It was a brilliant gold medal winning performance for Lymington Amateur Rowing Club’s Sol Chamberlain-Hyde in the U19 Coastal Men’s Solo (CJM1x). He had a perfect start, taking the lead and racing to the buoys and back around 15 seconds ahead of the Estonian sculler to claim the European title.

The Coastal Women’s Solo (CW1x) final saw Glasgow University Boat Club’s Laura McKenzie win the silver medal after a brave battle against Austria’s Magdalana Lobnig.

A sprint finish wasn’t enough for Cameron Buchan and Natacha Searson to progress beyond the quarter final in the Coastal Mixed double sculls (CMix2x). They had a slow start against the Lithuanian crew who maintained a small lead throughout to pip the GB crew to the buzzer.

Isabel Soyinka was knocked out in the quarter final of the U19 Coastal Women’s Solo (CJW1x) in a close race which saw her finish a few seconds behind the Austrian sculler. The U19 Coastal Mixed double sculls (CJMix2x) crew of Olivia Hodgson and Thomas Biddle were also knocked out in the quarter finals.

Tom Pattichis, GB Rowing Team head coach for Beach Sprints said: “We’ve seen promising results and some good performances here as our coastal athletes continue to build their experience in this new Olympic racing format. We now have a few weeks to focus our training before we return to Antalya for the World Coastal and Beach Sprint Championships.”

Friday saw the culmination of the Endurance races, where Charles Cousins won a bronze in the Coastal Men’s solo and it was a one, two for Great Britain in the Coastal Women’s Solo with Bass Andre winning Gold and Megan Hewison winning Silver.

Other British successes saw the Coastal Rowing Academy women’s quad win silver in the Women’s Club Masters category, and the Coastal Barbarians/Dolphin Rowing Club men’s quad win the Men’s Club Masters category.
