RoWindermere returns to Fell Foot this weekend
Following the success of last year’s inaugural tour, RoWindermere is back and even bigger!

This Sunday, RoWindermere returns for the second year and will see crews rowing the full length of lake Windermere, about 35km in total. Crews will set off from Windermere RC at Fell Foot in the south, to Waterhead in the north and back again, subject of course to prevailing weather conditions on the day.
RoWindermere will welcome participants aged 17 and above from across the country. Rowers will be in stable coxed quads, some acquired by British Rowing with sponsorship from Charles Stanley Wealth Managers and others from various clubs. The tour is organised by volunteers from British Rowing’s North West Regional Rowing Council in partnership with Windermere Rowing Club, and is supported by ‘Love Windemere’, a partnership made up of organisations from all sectors working to improve England’s largest lake including the South Cumbria Rivers Trust (SCRT), and also by Bennett Briegal LLP.
RoWindermere is committed to sustainable practice and thanks to SCRT all crews will be able to follow the ‘Clean, Check, Dry’ mantra, using their portable cleaning station to clean their boats before and after the tour thereby reducing the risk of transference of invasive species. Even the participation medals are made of wood!
Chair of RoWindermere Alex Meades is delighted to see the tour return for a second year. He said,“RoWindermere 2024 was great fun and we are delighted to see so many clubs returning in 2025 to do the full distance.”
Nigel Wilkinson, Chair of Love Windermere said: “Events like RoWindermere inspire us to keep pushing forward to deliver our work to improve water quality in the lake. Windermere is a national treasure – for rowers, swimmers, wildlife and local communities – and by working together we can secure a healthier future for generations to come.”
Crews will be coming from rowing clubs across the country including Northwich RC, Trentham BC, Monmouth RC, and Marlow RC. Windermere RC is looking forward to hosting the tour and club members are providing a chilli and quiz night on Saturday for the crews. Windermere RC Chair Sue Gibson said, “We welcome all the visiting crews to our beautiful water and fantastic facilities. Our delicious chilli will fuel you up for the tour and a warm cup of tea and homemade cakes will be ready and waiting when you come ashore.”
