European Champion and World Cup Winner Lauren Henry recognised by British Elite Athletes’ Association’s (BEAA)

Lauren Henry is one of four athletes in the running for the BEAA’s June’s Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award.
June proved to be a month to remember for Lauren, who claimed three gold medals in four weeks. The 23-year-old won the women’s single sculls at the European Rowing Championships, setting a new British record and a European Best Time in the process. She followed that up with two World Rowing Cup victories, winning by more than eight seconds in Varese before another comfortable triumph in Lucerne completed a fantastic month.
Lauren is Olympic Champion in the Women’s Quadruple Sculls, but has set her sights on delivering success in the Single Sculls. She’s enjoying every moment with this new project and has remained unbeaten so far this season. Speaking in Lucerne at the World Rowing Cup, she said: “It’s definitely a work in progress, it’s teamwork and I’m just loving it. I feel so fortunate to be doing it. It’s always been a dream. I enjoy it every day. I’m working with the best coach in Andrew (Randell), he’s basically so much fun and we have so much fun seeing where the limits are and trying to push those limits.”
Lauren is nominated alongisde Laura Sugar (para-canoeing), Henry Urand (para-triathlon) and Lily Kingsley (taekwondo).
The Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award is voted for by BEAA members – elite British athletes who receive funding from UK Sport’s World Class Programme. Elite athletes can vote for their Athlete of the Month by heading to their latest BEAA email. The winner to be confirmed shortly.
