DBS checks are a legal requirement as part of a safer recruitment process for anyone working with children and/or adults at risk in England and Wales, whether in a paid or voluntary capacity.

In July 2025 we announced a change to DBS to move to a new system provider, Know Your People, with a planned go live date of 12th August. Unfortunately, we experienced some technical difficulties resulting in delays changing systems.

Know Your People will now go live on 28 August.

British Rowing would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused in being unable to process DBS applications during this time.

British Rowing has also reviewed feedback received regarding the decision to charge members for the costs of obtaining a DBS, which will be paid by the individual requiring a DBS. . While we continue to review the feedback and financial implications, so as to not delay DBS processes further, British Rowing will continue to cover the costs of obtaining a DBS in the short-term, immediate future.

Guidance to ensure a smooth transition has been created and is available for club administrators,CWOs, and is available on the British Rowing Website.

Should you have any questions regarding the new system, please contact the British Rowing Safeguarding Team at  [email protected]
