On The Marie Curie Couch
Tom Digby Features in latest episode of the Marie Curie Podcast

Men’s eight Olympic Gold Medallist Tom Digby is featured in a podcast episode of the ‘On The Marie Curie Couch’, a monthly podcast where guests share their grief and death experiences with bereavement expert Jason Davidson.
Running from 2019 onwards, the podcast is all about breaking taboos and encouraging end of life discussions. On his episode, Tom speaks about his relationship with his mother Julie and the difficulties he faced in balancing his Olympic dream and support for his mother after her terminal diagnosis. He also discusses how family dynamics can change after a death and accepting being a lesser version of yourself during grief.
“I got my Mum a nice blanket and wrote a letter that said, “This is for all the times that I can’t be here.” When she went into the hospital… I put it at the foot of her bed and it stayed with her every night until she passed, at which point I took it home with me. She had attached a little label to it that says, “Whenever you’re in need of a hug.”
Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end of life charity. The charity provides expert end of life care for people with any illness they are likely to die from, and support for their family and friends, in hospices and where they live. It is the largest charity funder of palliative and end of life care research in the UK, and campaigns to ensure everyone has a good end of life experience.
