National School’s back with a bang in Nottingham

For the first time since 2015, the National Schools’ Regatta returned to Nottingham. Shiplake College stole the headlines with tremendous victories in the open and girls’ championship eight events.
“It’s a fantastic achievement for Shiplake College to make National Schools’ Regatta history by winning both championship eight categories,” said Dave Currie, Director of Rowing at Shiplake. “This success results from immense ambition and relentless hard work from all the athletes and the coaching team. It’s incredibly rewarding to see Shiplake’s vision for rowing truly fulfilled.”

Brilliant Bumps Racing on the Tideway
Since 1966, United Hospitals Boat Club has been hosting Bumps racing for all it’s member clubs. UHBC comprises the six extant clubs affiliated to medical schools and courses within the confederation of the University of London and Imperial College: Royal Free & University College Medical School (RUMS), Barts & the Royal London (BL), St Georges Hospital (SGUL), Guys, Kings & St Thomas’s (GKT) within Kings (KCL), Imperial College School of Medicine (ICSM), and Royal Veterinary College (RVC).
This year’s event saw headship’s traded between ICSM and GKT for both the women’s and open competition. For the women, ICSM led off the first division were chased down and eventually caught by a fast starting GKT crew who would row over the rest of the divisions to reclaim headship after ICSM interrupted a victorious streak for GKT which dates back to 2015.
In the open category, GKT looked set to do the double, until the final division of the day which saw ICSM snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and win their first outright headship since 2023.
