Mild temperatures and a gentle northerly breeze provided the perfect backdrop for over 70 races across the 2000-meter course.

Rowing clubs and schools from across the region flocked to the prestigious event, showcasing their skill and determination. The day was a vibrant display of competitive spirit and sporting camaraderie, with thrilling finishes witnessed by enthusiastic spectators lining the banks.

“The weather was fantastic, the racing was incredibly competitive, and the atmosphere was truly special” – Ben Gliniecki, Poplar Club Captain

The success of the regatta was made possible by the tireless efforts of over 50 dedicated volunteers from Poplar, Blackwall and District Rowing Club. Their commitment to the smooth running of the event, alongside the expert guidance of 20 umpires and the invaluable support of the Sea Cadets and staff at the Regatta Centre, ensured a seamless and enjoyable experience for all participants and attendees.

PBDRC extends its sincere gratitude to the generous sponsors whose support was instrumental in the regatta’s success: London City Airport, Insurance Capital Markets Research (ICMR), Elite Rowing, and Empacher UK. Their contribution played a vital role in facilitating a high-quality event for the rowing community.

The day culminated in a spectacular final race that saw Oxford Brookes A boat etch their name into the regatta’s history. The crew delivered an exceptional performance, winning with an impressive time of 5 minutes and 34.2 seconds, leaving the crowd in awe.

“We are absolutely delighted with how the regatta unfolded,” said Ben Gliniecki, Poplar Club Captain. “The weather was fantastic, the racing was incredibly competitive, and the atmosphere was truly special. It’s a testament to the hard work of our volunteers, the support of our sponsors, and the dedication of all the participating clubs and schools. A win for our club double and the final race with Oxford Brookes A getting within a 0.6s of the course record set last year was the perfect way to cap off a memorable day.”

The Poplar Regatta continues to be a highlight in the regional rowing calendar, fostering a love for the sport and providing a platform for athletes of all levels to compete and excel.
