St Ives RC win Harry Evans Memorial Trophy at St Neots SBH

For the second year in a row, St Ives were awarded the Harry Evans Memorial trophy at St Neots SBH. The club were the most successful of all those who made the trip to the River Great Ouse, coming away with eight wins across Sunday’s racing. St Ives RC’s Alfie Heylen was the fastest sculler of the day, an honour shared with ‘Mooney’ from Lea RC. Speaking of the Hackney-based club, ‘Kwiecinska’ was the fastest female sculler of the day.

St Ives were particularly nippy across a wide range of Single Scull events. The club, who also train on the River Great Ouse, left St Neots with wins in the Open J17, Women’s J18, Women’s J17, and Women’s J16 Single Sculls.

St Neots Small Boats Head involved three divisions throughout the day which had a Main Head and a Mini Head. The Mini Head was aimed at rowers at the very beginning of their rowing careers and followed at the end of each division finishing at the Rowing Club. Lea RC’s victories in the Single Sculls were backed up with their Open Coxed Four being crowned fastest crew of the day, 20s ahead of their club mates.

Huntingdon BC also had a great day out at the races, leaving with four wins in both the Open J15 Single Scull and Double Scull as well as the Mixed Quadruple Sculls and the Women’s Double Sculls.

The hosts, St Neots RC, also had success win the Double Sculls. They won the Open J18 title as well as the Women’s J16 event.

Loughborough students start season with a bang at Burton Head

Loughborough Students’ Rowing Club won both of their races at the 2025 edition of Burton Head. The men won the Open Quads and were the fastest crew of the day while their Women’s boat won Band 2 Quads, four seconds ahead of the fastest Band 1 boat from Trent RC. However, Trent RC had the last laugh as their J16s were the fastest Women’s Quadruple Scull of the day.

All of the aforementioned crews raced over the longer, 3.5km course. This division also saw success for the home club as their Open J17 crew was the fastest double of the day, 15 seconds ahead of the winning Open J16 Double Scull from Nottingham and Union BC.

15 crews raced over the shorter, 2000m distance. Derby RC’s Open J14 Double were the best of the bunch, placing ahead of the home club’s Open J16 Beginner Double Scull.
