Dr Ann Redgrave calls for all rowing clubs to install free defibrillators
Installing a defibrillator at your rowing club costs nothing and could save a life, thanks to the charity RALPHH

A message from Dr Ann Redgrave
It disturbs me that there remain many rowing clubs that do not have their own defibrillation equipment when there is a solution that comes at no cost to their club.
The partnership formed between British Rowing and the charity RALPHH has since 2020 seen 16 clubs and three rowing schools across England and Wales receive free defibrillators from the charity.
With its origins in rowing, RALPHH has always given priority to our sport over any other. The reputation of the welcome work of the charity has also attracted much interest from other sports, which is now placing pressure on the availability of defibrillators that can be donated to rowing. This position is only going to grow, so I am urging clubs and rowing schools to act now in contacting RALPHH and gaining assistance.
Every year we learn of instances in which participants in our sport have unexpected events in which heart or circulatory problems have put their well-being at risk. We know that defibrillators save lives and relying on the chance of having access to a machine 5 minutes up the road from the boathouse is not good enough. The faster a defibrillator is applied to someone in need, the better their chance of avoiding lasting damage.
I urge more clubs to make direct contact with RALPHH Chairman Richard Allen on richardallen52@btinternet, on 0794 9466795 or through their website.
It costs nothing and it could save a life.
