“GB has a target on its back from last summer’s dominant performances”
U23 Athletes Selected to Race at World Rowing U23 Championships in Poznan

Friday 11 July 2025 – A squad of forty-two athletes and fourteen support staff have been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2025 U23 World Rowing U23 Championships, taking place 23-27 July in Poznan, Poland.
The group comprises a mixture of returning medal winning U23’s and new athletes into the programme and includes rowers who have been studying abroad at US universities and from across the UK. The athletes racing in Poznan will have the honour of being the first to wear Great Britain’s new World Championships Kukri all-in-ones.
Peter Sheppard, GB Rowing Team Head Coach for the Olympic Pathway said: “GB has selected an U23 team for the WRU23C in Poznan containing 22 returners from the successful 2024 campaign in Canada last summer. Of these 22 returners 14 have previously won U23 medals and some multiple medals.
“The team of athletes and experienced coaches are very excited, in what is the first year of the LA Olympiad, to lay down performances that could turn the heads of the senior Head Coaches who will be looking to strengthen their squads over the next few seasons in preparation for the 2028 LA Olympic Games.
“In what is expected to be a highly competitive championship the squad will have to be at their best for their first race as they navigate the new World Rowing racing progression format without repechages. The final preparation period will focus on developing cohesive units that are fully prepared and robust to race at the Poznan venue over 1980m, due to the low water levels, in less than 2 weeks time, knowing as a nation nothing will be taken for granted and that GB has a target on its back from last summer’s dominant performances.
“The team this season contains a higher than usual number of US university based athletes as they make up around 62% of the team. While 47.5 % of the team will earn their first U23 vest.”
Live race tracker, live video streaming and results will be available throughout the regatta on www.worldrowing.com, as well as daily updates on British Rowing Instagram. Live video streaming will be available on worldrowing.com for all days of racing.
