British Rowing – Nominated Board Director (Volunteer)

We are looking for an outstanding Director with the expertise and enthusiasm in one or more of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; sustainability; duty of care; marketing; financial management and tax planning; commercial generation; digital transformation; and health and safety.

British Rowing’s mission is to grow a healthy life enhan cing sport. Our vision, to be a sport that welcomes and has an offer for everyone – from stepping into a boat on the water for the first time to helping rowers achieve international success. To help deliver these, British Rowing is seeking to bring in the best possible expertise and skills onto the Board to help us serve the rowing community. To grow the sport through increasing opportunities for everyone across the nation and the pathways where people can excel at every level.

The role of the Nominated Directors is, with the rest of the Board, to constructively challenge and contribute to the development of British Rowing’s strategy; to review the performance of management in meeting agreed goals and objectives; to support and monitor senior management performance, and to ensure appropriate succession planning. The Board meets eight times a year through a mixture of virtual and face to face meetings. In addition, Nominated Directors normally sit on one of the Board committees, typically meeting three to four times a year.

The Nominated Directors are typically appointed for a term of four years and may serve a maximum of two consecutive terms of office.

British Rowing is now inviting nominations for a Nominated Director to fill a Casual Vacancy for three years, ending October 2026.

We are looking for an outstanding Director with the expertise and enthusiasm in one or more of the following areas, to help take our support of the rowing community to the next level.

We are particularly keen to hear from individuals with a strong background across a number of areas including Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, sustainability, duty of care, marketing, financial management and tax planning, commercial generation, digital transformation and health and safety.

Eligibility

To be eligible for appointment as a Nominated Director for any candidate who has previously served on the British Rowing Board and who has completed the maximum term of office permitted by these Articles at least four years must elapse before that Director may be appointed again as a Director.

Each candidate must be nominated and seconded by two Regional Representatives of British Rowing. Appointment is by the Regional Representatives at a General Meeting.
