The 2012 Olympic Games are being held in London with the Olympic regatta being hosted at Eton/Dorney Lake from Saturday 28 July 2012 to Saturday 4 August 2012.

The London Olympic Games will be the first home Games since 1948 when the Olympic regatta took place on the Thames at Henley. The GB Rowing Team won two golds, a silver and a bronze at the Olympic Regatta in 1948 - including a gold medal for Richard Burnell, whose father Charles won gold in 1908, and William Laurie, father of English comedian turned Hollywood actor Hugh Laurie.

London 2012 will feature 14 medal events including the men’s four and the lightweight men’s double scull in which Britain won gold in Beijing at the 2008 Olympic Games, finishing as top rowing nation overall.

Qualifying for London 2012

The GB Rowing Team qualified boats for London 2012 in 13 of the 14 Olympic-class events by results at the 2011 World Championships which doubled as the main qualifying regatta for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Britain has never qualified boats in every Olympic class before and the only event outstanding for London is the women’s single scull.

The final qualifying regatta is in Lucerne from 20-23 May 2012.

WOMEN: Single scull (W1x), Double scull (W2x), Pair (W2-), Quadruple scull (W4x), Eight (W8+).

MEN: Single scull (M1x), Double scull (M2x), Pair (M2-), Quadruple scull (M4x), Four (M4-), Eight (M8+).

LIGHTWEIGHT WOMEN: Double scull (LW2x).

LIGHTWEIGHT MEN: Double scull (LM2x), Four (LM4-).
