Where: Join the British Rowing Session Coach course at the Aberdeen Schools Rowing Association, South Esplanade Way, Aberdeen, AB11 9AA.  

When: The course dates are 16 September (Saturday), 17 September (Sunday), 14 October (Saturday). The course will commence from 9 am onwards each day. 

About the course: Are you passionate about rowing and want to make a difference in your club? If yes, the British Rowing Session Coach course is for you!

The British Rowing Session Coach course is a recognised Level 2 Award in Coaching Rowing Sessions. It is aimed at beginner coaches and is designed for individuals who want to support their club by coaching occasional sessions, assisting, or supporting ‘Learn to Row’ courses. Accredited by 1st4Sport, this award provides a framework to develop rowers through skill-based sessions. The award focuses on coaching individuals on the water while supporting Club Coaches.

The course structure focuses on developing three core areas:

  • Safety
  • Session Planning
  • Skill Development

The course is balanced with both theory and practical elements. As a Session Coach award holder, you will be able to plan, deliver and review stand-alone rowing sessions and you will be qualified to work independently, but you may be part of a larger coaching team delivering a session as part of a programme written by another coach.

Who can attend? Anyone over 16 years of age inspired to develop their coaching skills. 

Mandatory Prerequisites:

All learners will need to have completed the following 2 additional workshops before signing up for this course. The prerequisites are:

  • Safety Basics Online Module here
  • Cold Water & Hypothermia Online Module here

Once you have completed these workshops, you will need to upload the certificates on to the ‘Credentials’ section of your membership account with British Rowing. The system will only allow you to book on once this process has been completed. 

For Coaches aged 16-17: 

If you are 16 or 17, you will need to be 16 at the time of booking. A parent or guardian will need to complete a consent form, which will be sent as a part of the booking confirmation email at the time of booking. Once you complete the ‘assessment’, your assessor will submit your ‘Record of Achievement’. Once you have been passed, you will be certificated fully after your 18th birthday. Until you are 18, you must be supervised during all coaching activities.
