University of Surrey Boat Club – Head Rowing Coach

The University of Surrey Boat Club is looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic head coach to deliver and lead a high performing programme across all levels, including beginner, senior and trialist.

Founded in 1947, we are a small but ambitious, performance driven rowing club with an average of around 60 members. Our members range from beginners who are taking their very first strokes, to rowers pursuing GB representation. We pride ourselves on our inclusive family culture that supports athletes to achieve their goals. Each year, we try to build and improve on the previous years results, which include representation at HRR, wins at HWR and BUCS, and representation at international races such as Heineken and EUSA rowing championships.

The Head of Rowing is responsible for the development and coordination of the Rowing programme at Surrey Sports Park, for the University of Surrey. Overseeing all aspects of rowing delivery: High Performance, Senior, and Development Squads. The post holder will drive programmes focusing on participation and development, as well as coach and manage the performance squads representing Team Surrey in British University College Sport (BUCS) and other local, national and international competitions.

The successful candidate will manage the rowing coaches and work with other internal departments (e.g. Campus and ClubSport teams) to ensure engaging and effective rowing delivery. Supporting the Performance Sport Officer, this role is also responsible for the day-to-day delivery elements of the partnership with Molesey Boat Club.

The post holder is expected to apply their technical and practical knowledge of rowing in order to provide advice and coaching to further develop the sport. They will manage their own work to ensure that key deadlines and objectives are met, with supervisory approval.

The Head of Rowing will actively contribute to the success of Team Surrey and improving the experience of Surrey students.
