St Edmund Hall Boat Club – Men’s Head Coach (part-time)

St Edmund Hall Boat Club is seeking a men’s head coach to design and lead the men’s rowing program from October 2022, focusing on coaching the Men’s 1st VIII throughout the academic year. The 1st VIII is currently 8th in both Torpids and Summer Eights and is well positioned for future success. We are looking for a coach who will promote an inclusive and committed culture across the squad to bring success in both bumps racing and regattas – to potentially include Wallingford Head, HoRR, BUCS and HRR.

Responsibilities:

  • Michaelmas and Hilary (Autumn + Spring) terms – Coach 2 longer weekend sessions and 1 midweek morning session in Abingdon, with land-based sessions in Oxford
  • Trinity (Summer) Term – Coach up to 6 sessions a week in Oxford, primarily weekday evenings and weekend afternoons
  • Leading development of the training programme for the entire men’s squad alongside captains and other coaches
  • Coaching at regattas, primarily Torpids and Summer Eights
  • Assist captains in crew selection
  • Proactively coaching both rowers and coxes to encourage squad development at a crew and an individual level
  • Liaising with other coaches to allow progression and consistency across the club

Criteria for successful applicants:

  • Significant rowing and/or coaching experience, ideally at a university level
  • Availability to consistently coach training across all 3 terms – primarily weekends and weekday evenings. Availability for a week-long training camp at Easter desirable but not essential
  • An approachable and supportive attitude
  • Good knowledge of rigging and boat setup
  • An RYA Powerboat Level 2 licence or desire to obtain one

Pay is competitive and negotiable dependent on experience

Interested applicants should send a CV and a short cover letter to Thomas Harray ([email protected]) by 8th July.

Application Dates: From Monday 20th June 2022 to Friday 8th July 2022
