Molesey Boat Club – High Performance Coach

Molesey Boat Club is recruiting a High Performance Coach to continue developing our pathway and build on the strong foundations and results the club has enjoyed in recent years. This position is part funded by the National Lottery via Sport England, under British Rowing’s GB High Performance Academy programme.

There is the opportunity for an ambitious coach to grow the senior club rowing programme that will be unique within the UK, that is aligned to the whole club strategy and pathway. The successful candidate will have a high degree of autonomy and will have the opportunity to lead an important section of the overall programme.

This is a full-time role with time divided between coaching, managing the men’s senior squad rowers, planning, and other duties around the club. Depending on the time of year, the hours each week will vary. Duties include:

  • Developing a pathway that delivers consistently strong results at Henley Royal Regatta, the Head of the River, and other national and international events.
  • Assisting with the club’s para development programme, high performance beginners and regional coach development when required
  • Ensuring that the atmosphere is fun and inclusive and that MBC athletes are supported and retained within the sport
  • Leading and managing the MBC volunteer coaching team
  • Providing a training camp to support preparation for Henley Royal Regatta
  • Working alongside the Club committees to increase integration of the senior squad into club life
  • Prudent allocation of resources and ensuring that the athletes and club receive value for money
  • To be an ambassador for MBC on and off the water.

About you

  • You have 4+ years’ experience coaching athletes and crews to National level, including but not restricted to GB trialists, BUCS, Henley Royal Regatta, or equivalent.
  • Experience in programming for seniors from part time club rowing to full time triallist standard
  • Experience coaching with a large and successful senior or U23 rowing programme.
  • Have a good understanding of safeguarding matters and a good understanding of club rowers needs’ at various levels.
  • You are constantly looking to evolve your own professional development.

Desirable skills

  • British Rowing Level 2 Coaching Qualification, or equivalent.
  • RYA Powerboat Handling Level 2 (desirable, but not essential)
  • B + E’ test (Car plus Trailer), or ‘D1 + E’ (Minibus + Trailer) (or a willingness to gain this)
  • First Aid Qualified
