Digital Communications Executive – British Rowing

We’re looking for a natural communicator to join our team and help us promote the sport in all of its forms, particularly indoor rowing, through great digital content.

📣A bit about the role

We’re looking for a natural communicator to join our team and help us promote the sport in all of its forms, particularly indoor rowing, through great digital content. You’ll be working across all of our social media channels and websites, interacting with the entire organisation as we share all that we do with the rowing community and beyond.

There’s a huge variety to rowing and so your days will be varied; this could include:

  • planning and facilitating a live workout on Insta as part of a January fitness campaign
  • live-tweeting the story of the GB Rowing Team competing at an international event
  • building a paid social push to increase our brand awareness with fitness enthusiasts

You’ll be part of the Partnerships & Communications team and will collaborate across the whole of British Rowing to help make sure our content drives the right results and can be accessed as easily as possible. You’ll also sit in our Indoor Rowing team and support them with all aspects of their communications, whether it’s copy-writing for a new website, creating a social media content plan or finding new and innovative ways to inspire people to take up indoor rowing.

We’re a small team with a variety of different objectives, so there’s lots of room to grow your skills and experience communications in a whole host of different settings.

👋 A bit about you

We’re looking for someone who understands how social media and digital content can help to bring a vision to life. Strong written skills are a must, as is the ability to be creative when designing graphics and helping plan campaigns.

As well as a creative thinker, we’re looking for someone who has a firm grasp of how to measure impact, so analytical skills and an understanding of basic insights, as well as tools such as Hootsuite, would be extremely beneficial.

Other tools which you might use regularly include Mailchimp, Adobe Photoshop, Canva and a variety of CMS platforms, mostly WordPress. While experience on these is highly desirable, the right candidate can be offered training if they fit other aspects of the job description.

In this role you’ll both support the wider communications team and design your own indoor rowing content plans, so you need to be comfortable on both sides of the table. We’re always open to new ideas and plans, and you’ll be able to put your own stamp on our communications and strategies.

You don’t have to be an expert on all things rowing but a passion for the sport would be a plus, or a passion for the positive benefits of sport on mental and physical health.

🚣‍ A bit about us

Our passion is rowing. We are the governing body for rowing, responsible for supporting grassroots rowing in England and getting the GB Rowing Team ready for the Olympics, Paralympics and other international competitions.

We are a membership organisation with around 30,000 individual members and we are looking to support over 520 affiliated clubs and 220 affiliated events. We cover all types of rowing whether it’s on the river, at home or in the gym (on a rowing machine) or even on the sea and so a key aim is to use our content to help engage the wider rowing community.

The GB Rowing Team has been hugely successful, winning gold medals at every Olympics between 1984 and 2016 and every Paralympics since rowing was introduced in 2008. We have an inspiring group of elite athletes who are all engaged and keen to get involved in promoting their sport.

🙌 What we offer

This role is based in London, with the option for hybrid working. We run a series of national events throughout the year, and part of this role involves travelling to and working on communications for those events.

Our offices, on the river in Hammersmith, are open so we’re regularly catching up as a team there too. You’ll be employed full-time with a salary of around £26,000-28,000 per year, dependent on your experience. You’ll also get some great perks as part of the team at British Rowing including 25 days holiday each year, a contributory pension, access to a cycle to work scheme and free staff kit.
