British Rowing – Associate Coach Developers (multiple roles)

We are looking to recruit a number of Coach Developers to support coaches as part of our recently-launched Coach Development Opportunities.

Overview

British Rowing has recently launched a suite of Coach Development Opportunities, which focus on the development of underrepresented, or isolated coaches in the sport. The  initiative will provide support and development opportunities across a range of formats including, online, group and bespoke face-to-face support. We are now looking to recruit a number of Coach Developers to support these coaches.

These opportunities will not only promote learning, but help to shape the role of coaching in an ever changing society.

Job Purpose

The purpose of the role is to support coaches who have been recruited to develop the skills, knowledge, behaviours and understanding they need to thrive, and become ambassadors for good practice in coaching. You will be instrumental in creating a workforce of coaches who are curious about learning, and confident to connect, discover and be guided to fulfil their potential.

Responsibilities
  • Support the project lead to shape bespoke learning opportunities for each coach.
  • Support, and attend the  induction, virtual sessions and conferences.
  • Support coaches throughout their time on their development programme, holding  one to one and group discussions, reviewing and providing feedback and further development opportunities.
  • To have meaningful interactions with coaches either at training, competition or in a non-rowing environment.
  • To be an active part of the Coach Developer opportunities as they evolve including the Coach Developer Communities of Practice.
  • Abide by and promote all British Rowing’s policies including Codes of Behaviour, Welfare, and Clean Sport Policies.

This list is not to be regarded as exclusive or exhaustive, as there may be other reasonable duties and requirements associated with the post, which British Rowing may call upon the post-holder to perform from time to time

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Able to communicate effectively, inspire and enable.
  • Have a passion for learning, education and development.
  • Experience of coach development.
  • Demonstrable, relevant and up to date professional development.
  • Have an ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to suit the context and environment of the person in front of you.
  • Hold robust knowledge of modern learning, and an understanding of how to apply it.
  • Current or will be expected to complete a DBS documentation and Safeguarding Training,  as obtained through British Rowing.

Desirable but not essential:

  • A qualification in coaching, mentoring or similar.
  • A sports coaching qualification.

  • £200 per day plus reasonable out of pocket expenses (3-7 days per allocated coach, as agreed with British Rowing).

Additional Information

Anti-Doping The post-holder is expected to be fully conversant with the core requirements of the WADA Anti-Doping Code and its requirement on coaches and Team Support personnel to set a good personal example in this field. When directly working with athletes the post-holder has a  responsibility to inform them appropriately of the Code’s application to them and to influence them in following a ‘drug-free’ culture.

Hours: The post-holder’s hours will be flexible to reflect the needs of the role and, while maintaining an appropriate work/life balance, will include time in evenings, at weekends and over public holidays.
