Dan is a Olympic High Performance Coach for the Men's Squad.

Dan joined British Rowing in 2012 as a World Class Start coach in Reading before moving to work with the senior team in 2018.

He started coaching aged 16 in a mentoring programme through Durham University with Wade Hall-Craggs and Peter Lee, coaching at Collingwood College. This gave him his first taste of running a programme and taking part in competitions such as BUCS and Henley,coaching his first Henley crew aged 17. He then spent a gap year coaching in Gippsland Grammar, Australia before studying Sport Science and topping the BUCS Regatta medal table while coaching at Loughborough University.

Dan joined British Rowing in 2012 as the World Class Start coach in Reading, before being seconded to work with the senior team in 2017 at the World Rowing Championships in Sarasota. He joined the senior GB Rowing Team in March 2018.

Dan says his career highlight was the 2016 season, where he coached the women’s double to gold at the 2016 U23 World Rowing Championships and had five World Medallists from the Reading Start group. He adds: “It was also special seeing Matt Gotrel go on to become Olympic Champion; an athlete I talent spotted and coached while I was an undergrad at Loughborough”.

Beyond the Boat

Outside of rowing, Dan’s hobbies include running and mountain climbing, “preferably together”: after the 2017 World Rowing Championships he ran 33 mountains around the UK in 8 days.
