Lightweight men’s pair safely through to semi-finals

James Goble and Tom Marshall gave the GB Rowing Team a solid start to the 2015 World U23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria on Wednesday.

The lightweight men’s pair were the only British crew competing in heats on the opening day.

In temperatures of 33°C, Goble and Marshall quickly established an early lead. They were overtaken by Greece and the United States in the second half of the race but had more than done enough to secure a top-three spot and a place in Friday’s semi-finals.

Emma McDonald had earlier competed in the lightweight women’s spares race, finishing third.

Ten more British crews will take to the water for their heats on Thursday morning, starting with the women’s four of Emily Ford, Melissa Wilson, Holly Hill and Sam Courty at 7am BST.
