Volunteering Opportunity – JIRR Committee Members

General Information

The JIRR Organising Committee is seeking new committee members who are interested in supporting the future of the event.

The Junior Inter Regional Regatta is a British Rowing Championship event aiming to provide young athletes with their first experience of selection and representation. The event is a unique region-based team event providing the Regional Teams the opportunity to compete at a national level. The event forms part of a Pathway for both athletes and for volunteers. We are specifically looking for individuals who have little or no experience of running rowing events at a national level but are keen to develop themselves or further their volunteer experience. The role will provide excellent experience for those looking to undertake other national roles or roles within clubs or regional events in the future.

We welcome all applications but are particularly interested to hear from those who are underrepresented in the sports volunteer cohort in terms of age, race and disability.

The JIRR aims

• The event is the first step but positively part of the international pathway.
• Athletes competing at the event should have demonstrated through selection, that they are the best crew in their region.
• The event should provide high quality competition, with the needs of athletes being the foremost concern.
• We will actively seek to be an event that volunteers want to take part in.
• The committee shall have representation from across all the regions.

The Role

The positions available would be “without portfolio” but with the expectation that those who volunteer would be interested in taking on more-specific roles in the future.

Volunteers are expected to attend six committee meetings per year (held virtually) as well as being physically present for 3 days over the regatta period. It is likely that there will be other ad-hoc tasks amounting to no more than 1 hour per week initially.

Although this is a voluntary role, reasonable expenses will be paid as per the British Rowing expenses policy, and accommodation provided during the event.

No formal qualifications are required however applicants should have a positive approach, excellent verbal communication skills and a belief in the importance of competitive sport.

Those interested in the roles are asked to submit a covering letter (1 side of A4) and rowing / Professional CV by 5pm 6 March by email to the event secretary. A virtual interview may be arranged between potential candidates and members of the current OC in the week commencing 8th March.

The committee is keen to support all applications. If you would like any further information please do not hesitate to get in touch with the Chair or Secretary below:

Luke Dillon – Chair – [email protected]
Fiona Dick – Secretary – [email protected]

Application Dates: From Monday 22nd February 2021 to Saturday 6th March 2021
