University College London Boat Club – Volunteer Coach

UCLBC are looking for a volunteer coach to work with their senior men and women as part of their Henley campaigns. The role will include 2-4 water sessions a week out of the UL boathouse in Chiswick. We train Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, Wednesday early mornings and Saturdays, and would welcome coaching at any of these sessions. The squads compete at 4’s Head, BUCS Head + Regatta, HORR/WeHORR, Henley Women’s Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta, as well as other regional races. We currently operate under a head coach, and would like some additional help in order to accommodate our rising competitive standards. We welcome applications from both experienced and new coaches. This is an opportunity to develop your coaching skills under the guide of a coach on their level 4 and be involved in the high performance programme at UCL. The role is unpaid but we will reimburse your travel and accommodation for races and domestic camps. We are offering to fully fund your British Rowing Level 2 coaching qualification if you are willing to commit to the role from September/October 2021 to July 2022.

If you are interested in this role or have any questions regarding the position please do not hesitate to contact us. To apply please send a paragraph to [email protected] explaining why you would like to join our coaching team and what experience you can bring to the role.

Role requirements:

  • A sound knowledge of rowing
  • Good with people and enthusiastic about working as part of a team
  • Reliable and punctual with availability for some of the sessions (mentioned above)
  • Will maintain professionalism around the boathouse and with athletes
  • A desire to learn about coaching (experience welcome but not required)
  • Has a launch driving qualification or willing attend a launch driving course put on by the boathouse
