Tideway Scullers School – Lead Coach J15

Tideway Scullers School (TSS) is looking to employ a Lead Coach for the J13 to J15 Group (LC J15) to be a part of the premier club junior performance programme on the Tideway.

The primary role of the LC J15 will be to recruit and develop the youngest scullers at TSS from beginners to racing at National level. The objective over the first 2 years is to recruit and develop at least 16 J15 juniors who will have raced successfully at BRJC. In following years that number is expected to increase, providing consistent and continuous development of Junior athletes at TSS.

This is a new role combining several previously part time roles into one role to increase the number and quality of TSS Juniors. Time will be divided between coaching, planning and other duties around the club.

Specific Responsibilities

● Lead coach for the group, preparing them for and attending regattas and heads, including National Schools Regatta (NSR) and British Rowing Junior Championships (BRJC).
● Responsible, working with Junior performance coaches, for setting and developing the training programme for this group.
● Responsible for coordinating the support of assistant session coaches in J13-15 on-water coaching.
● Selecting suitable candidates to attend the annual TSS Junior training camp and manage their participation in the camp.
● Responsible for the recruitment of beginners into the group; through social media.
● Helping coach other sections of the club, junior and senior as well as one school programme session weekly.
● Ensuring safeguarding of all junior athletes under their care.

The LC J15 will report to the Rowing Sub Committee and liaise with the other TSS coaches.

Personal Qualities

The successful candidate will be an excellent ambassador for TSS. They will be enthusiastic and engaging, with a genuine passion for coaching young people and work well in a team environment, particularly with the other coaches in the club.

Qualifications and Experience

MANDATORY:
Applicants will be expected to have experience of coaching juniors as part of a team, on a full time or part time basis. They will be expected to have gained a basic coaching qualification and to have recently undertaken a child welfare course.

DESIRABLE:
● RYA level 2 launch driving qualification and trailer driving licence.
● Experience of writing a training programme
● Experience of working with schools/external partners/organisations

Outline Terms and Conditions

SALARY SCALE:
In the region of £15,000 PA Subject to qualifications and experience.

WORKING YEAR / HOURS:
Average 25 hours per week taking into account days spent at events, all year round. Working times and days will vary depending on the weekly activities.

NUMBER OF DAYS HOLIDAY:
A pro rata entitlement to holidays based on a full time holiday entitlement of 28 days per year including bank holidays.

REFERENCES:
The appointment is subject to receipt of references satisfactory to the Club.

POLICE CLEARANCE:
The appointment is subject to police clearance as required by law for the protection of children and to compliance with proof of identity and addresses over the last five years in accordance with the stipulations laid down by the Disclosure and Barring Service.

PROBATION PERIOD:
Six months, with an interim review after three months at which time the position  will be reviewed. In case of illness during the probation period, statutory sick pay only will be applicable.
