TSS has had representation at Junior Trials, Coupe and Worlds for the last 15 years, with last year’s juniors gaining 5 international vests. This is an exciting time to join a progressive club with a proven record in supporting junior development.
This role will have strong element of leadership as it also includes developing and leading the J13 to 14 group, both JW and JM, and coordinating the assistant coaches helping deliver this programme.
Key Responsibilities (JM Lead Coach)
- Lead coach for the JM group, preparing them for and attending regattas and heads, including National Schools Regatta (NSR) and British Rowing Junior Championships (BRJC).
- Identifying potential candidates for GB Junior teams, preparing them for trials, and attending and supporting them at trials.
- Responsible for setting and developing the training programme for the JM group.
- Responsible for administrative aspects of coaching including entries, administration of camp, towing boat trails to events, monitoring equipment details executing minor boat repairs and maintenance, liaising with boats officer for major items.
- Ensuring safeguarding of all junior athletes under their care.
- Responsible for coordinating the support of assistant session coaches in JM on-water coaching.
- Selecting suitable candidates to attend the annual TSS Junior training camp and manage their participation in the camp.
- Responsible for the recruitment into the group
- Appropriate engagement with social media.
- Working closely with our coaching team, particularly the JW Lead Coach, to ensure a supportive coherent approach to TSS coaching
- Helping coach other sections of the Club, junior and senior groups if required, as hours allow.
Lead Coach J14 (JW and JM)
- Â Set and develop the training programme for the youngest scullers at TSS from beginners to racing at National level.
- Recruitment. Currently we have a programme supporting approx. 16 J14 juniors training to race up to BRJC. We would like to extend that number, providing consistent and continuous development of Junior athletes at TSS so recruitment will be an important part of this role through social media, learn to row courses and by visiting schools
- Overseeing the preparation of J13-J14 athletes for and attending regattas and heads, including National Schools Regatta (NSR) and British Rowing Junior Championships (BRJC).
- Coordinating the assistant session coaches for coaching this group.
- Ensure safeguarding of all junior athletes under their care
Personal Qualities:
- The successful candidate will be an excellent ambassador for TSS. They will be enthusiastic and engaging, with a genuine passion for coaching young people and work well in a team environment, particularly with the other coaches in the club.
Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory:
Applicants will be expected to have experience of coaching juniors as part of a team, on a full time or part time basis. They will be expected to have gained a basic coaching qualification and to have recently undertaken a child welfare course.
Desirable:
- RYA level 2 launch driving qualification and trailer driving experience.
- Experience of writing a training programme
- Experience of working with schools/external partners/organisations
Terms and Conditions
This full-time salaried position will offer remuneration relative to your experience and qualifications.
Working Year/Hours: average 40 hours per week (including Saturday and Sunday) considering days spent at events, year-round.
No of Days Holiday: 20 days per annum (10 days to be taken during August) plus Bank holidays. Entitlement increases to 25 days after completion of 5 years’ service.
References: The appointment is subject to receipt of references satisfactory to the Club.
Enhanced DBS Clearance: The appointment is subject to enhanced DBS clearance as required by law for the protection of children and to compliance with proof of identity and addresses over the last five years in accordance with the stipulations laid down by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Probation Period: 6 months, with an interim review after 3 months at which time the position will be reviewed. In case of illness during the probation period, statutory sick pay only will be applicable.
