The Queen’s College – Keeper of Boats

Applications are invited for the position of Keeper of Boats for our student rowing clubs at Oxford.

The Keeper of Boats will provide excellent rowing support services to enable our colleges’ rowers to train and compete at their best. The current post-holder is to retire in September and together our three colleges, Oriel College, Lincoln College, and The Queen’s College, seek to appoint an enthusiastic and proficient person to manage the operations and promote safe practice in rowing for our clubs within the combined Boathouse of these three colleges, located on Christ Church meadow island, Oxford.

We are looking for someone with demonstrated skills in marine/boat repairs and very possibly will have worked within a university, club or school rowing programme. Ideally, the successful candidate will have proven experience in managing a similar sized boathouse, including all the equipment requirements, maintenance, safety compliance, and associated administration.

You will have the ability to plan and prioritise your own work, as the Keeper is expected to have the fitness and motivation to carry out tasks without direct supervision. This is a physically demanding role and you must be able to cope with heavy lifting, carrying, and manual handling. You must hold a full driving licence which qualifies you to tow a boat trailer.

You are likely to be a dedicated enthusiast for the sport of rowing already, and you must have a very flexible and hands-on approach to assist students in achieving their rowing goals. The successful candidate will enjoy working with and supporting the student elected representatives of each club to achieve their clubs’ aims.
