Nassau Rowing Club – Head Coach

Nassau Rowing Club (NRC) in Nassau, The Bahamas is the premier rowing club in The Bahamas and the largest in the Caribbean.

NRC is seeking a candidate for a full-time, salaried Head Coach & Program Director that includes overall responsibility for masters and junior program athletes, team communications, equipment management and maintenance, regatta entries and chaperoning, as well as overall community outreach program directorship.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of coaching experience at the masters, senior, collegiate, and/or junior level
  • Experience making arrangements for international travel for regattas, boat inspection, equipment rental, etc.
  • Experience in developing, maintaining, and growing community-based rowing programs
  • Advanced Coaching Certification (equivalent to US Rowing Level 2, such as British Rowing Coaching qualification UKCC Level 2, or other track record of experience)
  • Competition history with top-25 finishes at such regattas as Head of the Charles Regatta, CRASH-Bs, Henley Royal Regatta, Head of the River Race or derivations
  • Boating license to operate motorized small craft
  • Ability to coach sweep rowing and sculling with equal proficiency
  • Certification from SafeSport International, or national equivalent, with CPR certification
  • Proactive by nature, action-oriented, self-starting, and organized
  • The ability for unrestricted travel to the United States and Canada
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Clean international criminal record

Key Responsibilities:

The Head Coach & Program Director provides strategic leadership to the athletes and assistant coaches and, reporting to the Board of Directors, oversees day-to-day club operations by fulfilling the following key responsibilities:

●       Foster a culture of respect, safety, inclusivity, empowerment, and integrity in the boathouse and wherever our athletes row

●       Grow our Opportunities & Access Rowing Squad (OARS), a community outreach program that recruits, trains, and retains athletes from underprivileged backgrounds and teaches them to row

●       Organize and execute Learn to Row classes every quarter as a main revenue driver

●       Develop and implement, collaboratively with the volunteer coaches, a training plan that addresses the physical, mental, and technical development of rowers, for the advancement of our athletes and their teams, and that prepares the team to perform competitively at regattas locally, regionally, and nationally

●       Work with our partner schools and organizations to build a harmonious and collaborative environment for mutual success during camps

●       Maintain and grow social media presence, positively and professionally represent the Nassau Rowing Club at any and all public events in The Bahamas or elsewhere

●       Work with the Club Treasurer to collect and account for fees, assist with deposits and bank reconciliations when required

●       Ensure equipment working order and oversee routine maintenance

●       Build relationships around the Nassau community – we’re fun!

Remuneration & Terms:

Total compensation: $50,300 Bahamian dollars (equivalent to $50,300 USD) per annum; no local income tax at any level

Salary: $35,000 Bahamian dollars (equivalent to GBP 26,730) per annum, open to discussion based on experience

Other benefits: approximately $15,300 Bahamian dollars + variable income from new member bonus and private coaching (breakdown in Exhibit 1 as follows)

Paid holidays: 4 weeks (20 business days); with two flexible administrative, non-coaching weeks plus all Bahamian national holidays (10 days)
