London Rowing Club – Assistant Coach

London Rowing Club are looking for a full time (paid) Assistant Coach. Working alongside our Chief Coach (Stuart Heap) and team of volunteers, the Assistant Coach will be primarily responsible for the development of our senior women’s squad.

The LRC senior women’s squad saw exponential growth in the 2020/21 season. Culminating in the club’s largest ever entry to Henley Women’s Regatta, with 21 athletes competing across 8 events and our top crew making the final of Aspirational Club 4-. The squad then went on to qualify an 8+ for the inaugural Wargrave Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta.

Looking to the future, LRC is committed to building on our recent success by growing the strength and depth of our women’s squad, and the appointment of a full time coach to oversee that is a show of that commitment. We start the 2021/22 season with a wins in the W.Club and W.MasA categories at Scullers Head (3rd and 4th fastest female scullers overall) and are now building towards success at the 4s Head and Remenham Challenge at the end of 2021.

The successful applicant will have one to five years rowing coaching experience and be able to demonstrate the ability successfully manage large groups of athletes. Ideally, all applicants should also hold:

  • British Rowing Level 2 coaching qualification
  • RYA Level 2 power boat licence
  • Full UK drivers licence
  • Knowledge of the navigation and safety rules of the Tideway

Though this is a full time role, with all our athletes being in full time work or education, the hours required of the Assistant Coach are not 09:00 – 17:00. As a guide, the core times required for coaching are:

Monday and Wednesday evenings 17:30 – 20:30 (ergs)

Tuesday and Thursday mornings 05:45 – 08:45 (water)

Saturday and Sunday mornings 07:00 – 12:00 (water)

In addition to these core coaching hours, the Assistant Coach will be expected to give additional coaching where required as well as complete necessary administerial work.
