Latymer Upper School – Assistant Rowing Coach

Latymer Upper School is the leading fully co-educational independent school in London. It has established a strong rowing programme across girls’ and boys’ events in both sculling and sweep disciplines, having achieved extensive success on the National stage.

The school is looking to appoint an Assistant Rowing Coach to start with immediate effect. This is a part-time role amounting to 20 hours per week. The primary area of focus will be to develop Y9 and Y10 pupils in sculling and sweep.

This role is supportive, working closely with lead coaches from Y9 and Y10, to implement, monitor and evaluate adherence to a programme designed to recruit pupils and develop basic foundations to remain engaged in the sport and become committed senior rowers.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, passionate and eager to build on the recent accomplishments of the school boat club that places pastoral support at the centre of its coaching. They will think ambitiously and work openly, collaboratively and flexibly within a strong team environment. Experience of developing young athletes within a school programme progressing to Junior GB selection will be highly desirable.

The role will demand confidence in coaching on the Tideway and managing large numbers of pupils of varying abilities in changeable conditions and different boat types. Good judgement, sound Tideway knowledge and desire to support the team will all be essential.

Excellent organisation and communication will be required, alongside an ability to build rapport with a wide range of pupils and adapt coaching styles to the individual.

RYA Level 2 Powerboating, a towing and a minibus licence are all desirable.

For an informal discussion and/or further details, please email Phil McGee (Head of Boats).
