Jesus College, Cambridge – Assistant Rowing Coach

Founded in 1827 and approaching its bicentenary, Jesus College Boat Club is one of the oldest rowing clubs in the UK.

In recognition of the need for its students to enjoy a healthy and active life while studying at Jesus, the college has been granted funding to appoint an assistant coach to facilitate the numbers of students taking up the sport of rowing. This is an exciting opportunity that would ideally suit someone looking to start a career as a professional rowing coach.

Reporting to and mentored by our Head Rowing Coach, you will take responsibility for designing, implementing and delivering the programme for our annual intake of new rowers (male and female undergraduate and postgraduate students). This will involve close liaison with the boat club captains and alumni coaches.

Your duties will include accompanying crews during races, including loading and unloading of the trailer if required, and attending an annual training camp (normally in Spain).

You will be a British Rowing Level 2 qualified coach with experience of L2R programmes.

This is a one-year fixed term full time contract (starting September 2022, ending September 2023), which may be extended further. The role requires flexibility of working hours to meet the needs of the student rowers. Term time working week will often exceed 37 hours and will include early mornings, evenings and weekend working (often 7 days per week during term times). Hours worked in excess of 37 hours per week will be taken as time off in lieu during out of term vacation periods.

Benefits include; Membership of a defined contribution pension scheme with a death-in-service benefit of two times salary, membership of a healthcare cash plan, free daily staff meal when in College, onsite parking, and the opportunity to work in a beautiful environment.

Further details and an application form are available to download from the College website.
