Home International Rowing Beach Sprints – Assistant Match Director (Volunteer Role)

The role as Assistant Match Director will primarily be to assist the Match Director with the organisation and delivery of an international standard beach sprints competition.

This role will provide experience in running an international competition and develop the individual’s skills, supported by the Match Director and the British Rowing Events Manager.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Assistant Match Director to work with the Match Director and the organising committee in the planning and delivery of the 2024 Home International Rowing Beach Sprints competition. You’ll have excellent organisational skills and be an effective communicator able to inspire and enable the committee and volunteers to produce a high-quality event.

Experience and/or knowledge in event management is required; experience or knowledge of rowing and planning regattas is desirable but not essential.

To continue the development of the appointed Assistant Match Director, the intention is that they will subsequently be appointed as Match Director for the 2026 Home International Rowing Regatta (Classic Rowing) hosted by England, subject to approval of British Rowing’s Event Manager, England Pathway Manager and the England Representative to the Home International Regatta General Management Committee.

About us

We are the governing body for rowing, responsible for supporting grassroots rowing in England and the selection of England Teams for Home International and Commonwealth Competitions. We also manage the training and selection of the GB Rowing Team in preparation for the Olympics, Paralympics and other international competitions.

About the Home International Rowing

The Home International Rowing Regatta is an historic annual competition taking place between the four “Home Nations” of England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales, dating back to 1962.  In 2022, Home International Rowing expanded its offering to include the new rowing discipline of Beach Sprints. As this event develops, the intention is to include invitational teams from established coastal rowing island communities such as Jersey.

Our offer

The position of Assistant Match Director is a voluntary position. As part of our offer, you will be given:

  • appropriate training as required;
  • support from the British Rowing Events Manager and the England Rowing Match Director;
  • reasonable expenses.

Timetable

The 2024 Home International Rowing Beach Sprints competition will take place on Saturday, 28 September in Dorset. The position will conclude shortly after this date, once appropriate reviews and feedback have taken place.

A decision on the appointment of 2026 Match Director will be made by 1 December 2024.
