Furnivall Sculling Club – Squad Session Coach (Paid)

Furnivall Sculling Club is seeking to recruit a Session Coach to support the development of athletes at our historic sculling and sweep rowing club. Furnivall is a vibrant club with over 125 years of history based in Hammersmith.

As the oldest women’s rowing club in the country, Furnivall has a reputation for offering a competitive yet inclusive environment for our >150 members. We pride ourselves on being a diverse and inclusive club, enabling longevity and flexibility in our members’ rowing careers while supporting them in reaching their maximum potential.

Rebuilding after Covid and a complete boat house refurbishment, we have a men’s and women’s squad that each regularly have 20-24 athletes attending water and land training sessions, allowing us to enter two eights per squad in this year’s head races. All athletes in the squads follow a comprehensive training programme.

We are seeking a session coach to work with our coaching team in both sweep rowing and sculling.

We are looking for a coach who shares our vision to help the club grow and support all squad members, from novices through to the more experienced athletes of the men’s and women’s squads, in reaching their maximum potential.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coaching water sessions on the Tideway on Saturdays and/or Sundays
  • Running weekday evening ergo and strength & conditioning sessions

Remuneration will be provided at a per-session rate in line with experience.

Preferred experience includes:

  • Minimum 2 years coaching experience
  • Experience of coaching both sweep rowing and sculling
  • Good understanding of rowing and safety on the Tideway
  • Launch driving experience, ideally RYA Level 2 or equivalent
  • British Rowing Level 2 Coaching certificate or equivalent.

Hours are negotiable, ideally available for Sunday morning water sessions and potentially evening/early morning midweek sessions. 2 – 4 sessions per week. Looking forward to the 2024/2025 season, we would consider expanding this role into a squad coach for either the men’s or women’s racing squad.

If you have a passion for coaching and want to help us continue the development of the squad then please submit a CV/outline of your coaching experience and skills, with references, to Captain Evelyn Tichy at [email protected]. If you would like an informal chat about the role please contact Head Coach John Hickling, on [email protected] to arrange a call.

Salary: Dependent on experience

Type: 4-8 hours

Application Dates: From Thursday 21st March 2024 to Sunday 21st April 2024
