Eton College – Rowing Coach

We are looking for casual Rowing Coaches to coach beginners to attain basic watermanship, so they are competent and comfortable in a single. On the river, the role (if conducted from a launch) will also have a safety aspect. The main purpose of the role is not to create fast J14 scullers, but to produce enthusiastic, inspired J14 scullers, who will enter our J15 system.

You will be passionate about rowing and ideally possess relevant rowing coaching qualifications or certificates. You will have experience of rowing and sculling and be able to teach basic skills of sculling and rowing to beginner rowers.

Main Duties

  • Coaching beginners to attain basic watermanship so that they are competent and comfortable in a single scull
  • Keeping records of individual boys’ progress on the Rowing programme
  • Commitment and promotion of equality, diversity and inclusion;
  • All positions at Eton are classed as ‘regulated activity’ as per the Keeping Children Safe in Education 2021 guidance, therefore a good understanding of safeguarding procedures is essential;
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, including by not limited to, completing safeguarding training as required, and ensuring any safeguarding updates issued by the College are read and understood;
  • Understand and comply with procedures and legislation relating to confidentiality

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role, the incumbent should have:

  • British Rowing coaching qualification, Instructor’s Award level or higher / or equivalent
  • Ability to enthuse and encourage those they coach
  • Ability to build good individual relationships
