Cambridge ‘99 RC – Junior Squad Assistant Rowing Coach (paid)
Cambridge ‘99 is looking for an enthusiastic assistant rowing coach to join our experienced Junior squad coaching team.
We have a growing Juniors squad with a capacity of up to 50 athletes, aged from 12 to 18. The squad has achievements at local and regional races as well as successful appearances at national events. Our coaching team is led by professionals who specialise in working with young people and have British Rowing Level 2 certification. The squad follows a programme designed to develop the juniors’ skills, strength and the fitness needed to enjoy rowing and to progress as a rower.
Our athletes can train up to six sessions (including more than four sessions on the water) each week, with regular sessions on core stability, flexibility and ergo training together with weights for the racers groups. We encourage all under 16s to focus on sculling; with some sweep oar opportunities for the 16+ age group.
Each junior progresses at their own rate and has personalised goals, based upon their experience and commitment. We have an ambitious squad with focused and race driven athletes targeting national and regional (J1 and J2) races as well J3 athletes who prefer committing only to local events, or to developing their skills and rowing socially and that choose not to compete at events.
Person Specification:
- UKCC Level 2 Rowing Coaching Qualifications. (Desirable but not essential)
- First aid certificate (support can be provided to obtain a first aid certificate)
- Previous rowing and sculling coaching experience
- Coxing experience (desirable but not essential)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to deliver sessions
- Flexible and able to commit to working weekends, after school and during holiday periods.
Duties include coaching on weekdays (2-4 weekday sessions per week) between 4.30pm to 6:30pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 09.30am to 12pm. Additional sessions may be required when the head coach is away e.g. at GB training camps and trials. Coaches will also need to be available for boat club events (Regattas/Head races, camps and meetings). A day rate is available for events outside of Cambridge and overnight stays.
Although this could be a long term role for the right candidate, we would also be happy to hear from applicants interested in a shorter term position, e.g. to the end of the current school year.
