British Rowing – World Rowing Coastal Championships and Beach Sprint Finals 2022 Volunteer Manager

Great Britain has won the rights to host the World Rowing Coastal Championships and Beach Sprint Finals in 2022. They will be held in Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire, Wales, in October.

📣A bit about the role

We anticipate needing to bring together a team of up to 250 people (staff, contractors and volunteers) to plan and deliver this international event.

We require a supremely organised, high energy and approachable volunteer manager to be the central point of contact for event volunteers (circa. 200). The ideal candidate would have experience in volunteering themselves, potentially in rowing, but definitely in sport. They would be part of the organising committee for the event and would help scope the volunteering strategy as well as then implementing it both before and at the event.

You will be one of the linchpins of the event organising committee. We have several volunteering targets to meet and encouraging and nurturing volunteers is one of the key benefits of the World event coming to Pembrokeshire and Wales. You will have quite a few trips to Saundersfoot – a lovely part of the world and meet a huge variety of people at the cutting edge of international sport. Rowers tend to be friendly types, and though not everyone on the organising committee is a rower by trade, they are enthusiastic about the sport.

👋 A bit about you

Do you enjoy organising both pre and at event, are you an approachable, friendly face for volunteers and do you understand and care about volunteer welfare and development? Then this role is for you.

This role will require a not insignificant amount of time dedicated to it. You will probably have been one of the amazing team of volunteers at several events before, not necessarily in rowing, but more than likely in sport. You will get a buzz from having done such a role, recognise the fundamental role that volunteers have at events – being the face of the event, the first touch point for most people at the event – have copious amounts of energy yourself, yet appreciate that to maintain this energy volunteers need fuel, support, a friendly face and appreciation.

🚣‍ A bit about us

The World Rowing Coastal Championships and Beach Sprint Finals is rapidly growing in popularity and there is great scope for innovation. 2022 will be a particularly exciting year in the development of the sport as it develops ahead of its inclusion in the 2026 Youth Olympics.

So far international competitive rowing on the world stage has been dominated by flat water rowing, with coastal rowing being a relatively new format. The reason for its rise in popularity is because it is fun, fast and a lot of things can happen in a race which makes it awesome to watch. It’s also held besides and on a beach – what could be better?
