British Rowing Digital Communications & Marketing Executive

Digital Communications & Marketing Executive

📣A bit about the role

You’ll be helping us to up our game across our digital platforms, helping us promote rowing and, in particular indoor rowing, through great, optimised, digital content. We’re looking for someone to join us for a busy six months including the Olympics and Paralympics to start with but if it goes well there may well be the opportunity to extend your stay at British Rowing.

There’s a huge variety to rowing and so your days will be varied too – this could include:

  • Planning and facilitating a live workout on Insta as part of a January fitness campaign.
  • Coordinating an online sales campaign for our British Rowing Indoor Championships.
  • Live-tweeting the story of the GB Rowing Team competing at an international event.
  • Building a paid social push to sell our indoor subscription to a wider audience.

You’ll be part of the Partnerships & Communications team and will collaborate across the team to help make sure your content drives the right results and can be accessed as easily as possible. You’ll also sit in our Indoor Rowing team working as part of a cross-functional team coordinating our work in indoor rowing.

We’re a small team and so we might also ask you to do other bits from time to time.

👋 A bit about you

You’ll know your tweets from your fleets and your reels from your memes. We need someone who understands social media, what people want to see and how good digital content can help drive our messages and objectives. You’ll need to be equally comfortable writing content, creating imagery and planning campaigns.

You’ll be a whizz in common digital platforms like Mailchimp, Hootsuite as well as classic desktop software like Adobe Photoshop. You’ll also have a good understanding of digital analytics and will be able to measure the impact of our digital comms.

You need to have a can-do attitude and be someone who will make things happen. You’re not going to be sat on the sidelines – in an exciting year for the sport with the Olympics and Paralympics, you’ll be thrown straight in. You need to be creative, highly motivated and forward-thinking – someone who gets excited and inspired when they see a good piece of content.

If you’re good at graphic design that would be a bonus and whilst it will help if you’re passionate about rowing and sport more generally, it’s not essential.

🚣‍ A bit about us

Our passion is rowing. We are the governing body for rowing, responsible for supporting grassroots rowing in England and getting the GB Rowing Team ready for the Olympics, Paralympics and other international competitions.

We are a membership organisation with over 33,000 individual members and we are looking to support over 550 affiliated clubs and 220 affiliated events. We cover all types of rowing whether it’s on the river, at home or in the gym (on a rowing machine) or even on the sea and so a key aim is to use our content to help engage the wider rowing community.

The GB Rowing Team has been hugely successful, winning gold medals at every Olympics since 1984 and every Paralympics since rowing was introduced in 2008. We have an inspiring group of elite athletes who are all engaged and keen to get involved in promoting their sport.

🙌 What we offer

Right now due to COVID restrictions, you’ll be working from home but will potentially need to travel nationally for some events. Once possible, you’ll be based in our head office on the river in Hammersmith, London. You’ll be employed full-time on a six-month fixed-term contract with a salary of around £24,000 – £28,000 per year, dependent on your experience. You’ll also get some great perks as part of the team at British Rowing including 25 days holiday each year and free staff kit.
