What is Beach Sprint rowing?
Beach Sprints is a fast-paced racing format where two boats go head to head in races lasting minutes. Fastest boat progresses, second place gets knocked out.
It starts with a sprint on the beach for one person from each crew. Rowers then row 250m out to sea, slaloming around two buoys, before turning around a third and heading straight back to shore.
The final sprint up the beach is to a buzzer – with close races often being decided by a dive to the button.
