Morgan, a double world champion in the men's eight, owes his success to his family and volunteer club coaches. People who showed unwavering belief in him as a junior, even when he showed little promise of succeeding in rowing

After a difficult early childhood, Morgan was taken into care and sent to live with his grandparents in Cornwall. It was here that Castle Dore Rowing Club allowed him to channel the resilience he built as a child into the sport of rowing.

Despite being skinny and weak from his early upbringing, Castle Dore gave Morgan every opportunity to chase his ambition, which far exceeded his talent. In particular, the club’s Alastair Barr, who sadly passed away in December 2023, was an inspirational coach to Morgan as well as to many young rowers he dedicated his spare time to.

At 16, Morgan moved away from home to pursue rowing further at Walton Rowing Club, Surrey, and at 18 competed at the 2013 Junior World Rowing Championships in the men’s eight.

Morgan then joined Oxford Brookes University where he made significant strides in his ability, culminating in selection for the national team in April 2019. After a challenging first two years on the team, Morgan was selected as reserve for the Tokyo Olympics.

Falling short of his dream of earning an Olympic medal for his country, Morgan returned for the Paris Olympiad with unfinished business. In 2022 he was part of the first-ever GB Men’s eight to go undefeated in a season, returning in 2023 to retain both World and European titles.

Outside of rowing Morgan is happiest outdoors adventuring with his girlfriend Abbi and Australian Shepherd Arlo. If you catch him indoors he’ll probably be sifting through his library of cookbooks to perfect his next dish as a passionate home cook.
