Host club takes top honours of Cambridge Winter Head
City of Cambridge RC top the ranks at their own Winter Head 2 Head with their Open and Women’s Eights posting the fastest times of the day.
The unique event saw crews racing 2000m downstream before spinning and racing back upstream, creating one of the longest races on the Cam. Of the 161 crews that raced, City of Cambridge RC fielded nearly a quarter of the entry with their full strength and depth on display.
Conditions across the day were favourable and 2026 saw 47 new course records set across every boat class that raced. Taking the top honours across the Open and Women’s Student Eights were Caius College BC and Pembroke College BC, respectively. The Caius men put 10 seconds into Pembroke, who were third overall with First and Third BC the next best student crew but also winners of Open Band 2 Eights. City of Cambridge BC dominated the club scene beating their nearest rivals, Cantabrigian RC, by more than 50s.
There were similarly impressive margins of victory in the Women’s Student Eights. Trinity Hall College BC could only get within 10 seconds of the Pembroke women while Jesus College BC were a further 11 seconds further back.
Across the board, it was a good day for Jesus College BC, wining Women’s Band 3, Band 5, and Open Band 5 Eights.
Bragging rights in the Quadruple sculls went to City of Cambridge RC. Not only did their Open and Women J18s top their event but they were the fastest Quads of the day. You can’t win anything with kids…
Vesta RC’s Izzy Maxwell continued her strong season in the Single Scull and kicked-off 2026 conquering the Cam, topping the Single Scull rankings while Harvey Orskov was the best on the Open side of things.
