The England Rowing Team are looking to retain all four trophies – Senior Men, Senior Women, Junior Men and Junior Women – which they won last year.

A total of 62 athletes from 31 different clubs have been selected to represent England at the Home International Rowing Regatta, the starting point for many on the journey to representing Great Britain. England’s junior team will race in 20 events while the senior team – including two para-rowing classification boats – will race in 25 events.

This year saw a record 87 boats from 41 clubs enter the selection trials at the London Docklands. There was some tough competition across the 22 boats contested, resulting in two race-offs. The remaining four boats – the Junior Men’s and Junior Women’s coxed fours and ‘A’ singles – were selected from GB Under 19 Crew formation trials in Nottingham.

Full England Trials Results

“Having seen the overall standard on display at the trials the quality of the selected crews, I am really excited to take this team to Ireland to defend the trophies we won last year.” Said Chris McManus, England’s HIRR Team Manager. “I think this team is certainly the equal of last year’s so am looking forwards to some great racing on Lough Rinn.”

There are 10 returning athletes in the team including Gemma King (LW1x – Cambridge University BC), who is competing in her fifth HIRR. On being selected Gemma said: “I’m very honoured to be representing England at the Home International Rowing Regatta. Having competed at the event four times before, I know that it’s always a great event to be a part of. I’m excited to go to Ireland, have some close racing and row with people from clubs all over the country.”

The Regatta’s format, introduced in 2022, features para boats, quads and eights racing over 500m as well as the traditional 2,000m events. Ashley Cowley and Martin Gough, the Lead Coaches for Seniors and Juniors respectively, will be preparing the crews at their training bases between now and the regatta this weekend.

James Andrews, England Pathway Manager said: “I am extremely excited to see what this year’s team can do over in Ireland. We had a fantastic year in 2022 and are hoping to keep that momentum away from home.”
