Happy Easter, Ramadan and Passover from all of us in the Safeguarding and Integrity team, and we hope you are looking forward to getting stuck into what looks like is going to shape up to be an excellent year of rowing activity and competitions.

Safeguarding

Reporting a Concern

We would like to re-emphasise the importance of reporting safeguarding concerns to your Club Welfare Officer (CWO), and to the British Rowing Safeguarding and Integrity team. We can then advise on any necessary steps and to investigate further as appropriate.

We have recently updated our Report a Concern Form to make it easier and clearer to report any concerns you may have. If you are unsure about anything to do with reporting a concern please contact us at [email protected].

You can also use the form to report any equality related concerns.

CWO Briefings

We will be holding our first CWO online briefings in May and we really encourage all CWOs, Assistant CWOs or others acting in a similar capacity in clubs to attend one of the four available dates.

Our focus for this first briefing will be on safer recruitment, safeguarding training requirements in clubs, use of British Rowing systems and record keeping).

Code of Conduct

Please remember that anyone who is involved in the sport of rowing in England, or represents Great Britain is subject to and bound by the Code of Conduct.

Misconduct should be reported and dealt with in accordance with the British Rowing Disciplinary and Grievance Regulations, including the Club and Regional Disputes Guidance (Appendix 4).

We strongly encourage clubs to regularly review their constitutions and policies to ensure that they are fit for purpose. It is a requirement that clubs maintain policies that comply with these guidelines.

Hay Fever

A note from UK Anti-Doping:

With pollen levels set to rise as the weather (hopefully!) gets warmer, we are reminding athletes to check the anti-doping status of their hay fever medication prior to use. Here are some useful tips on checking medication:

Check the anti-doping status of the medication using Global Drug Reference Online (Global DRO)

Make sure that the search result contains the status of all ingredients listed on the label of the medication

Keep a copy of the search result for your own records

Annual changes to the Prohibited List come into effect each year on 1 January, so make sure to re-check all medication even if you checked it last year

If the medication is prohibited, athletes should use our TUE Wizard to find out if they need a TUE and how to apply

If you are unable to find the medication you are searching for on Global DRO, you should contact UKAD to find out its anti-doping status by sending an email to [email protected].
