Five U19 athletes to represent Great Britain at the 2022 European Rowing Under 19 Championships

The 2022 European Rowing Under-19 Championships are taking place on 21-22 May. Read on to find out which athletes will be representing Great Britain

Marcus Chute, Ella Bardsley Taylor, Megan Knight, Maisie Aspinall and Zoe Beeson will be racing for Great Britain at the 2022 European Rowing Under-19 Championships in Varese, Italy on 21-22 May 2022.

These athletes recently had their first experience of racing for Great Britain at the Munich International Junior Regatta, where they all picked up medals on their GB U19 international debuts.

Ella Bardsley Taylor and Megan Knight won bronze in the women’s double (W2x), with Megan also picking up a silver in the women’s single on the Sunday (W1x). Zoe Beeson and Maisie Aspinall were two members of the gold-medal-winning women’s four (W4-) with Zoe also winning gold in the women’s pair (W2-).  Marcus Chute put in a fantastic performance to win gold in the men’s single (M1x) on Saturday with the outstanding performance of the regatta.

John Layng, Great Britain U19 Team Manager said: “After making their international debuts at Munich, where they gained their first valuable experience of high level racing, these five rowers can feel proud to represent Great Britain at these Championships. This event will allow them to take a further step forward in their international careers by testing themselves alongside the best European U19 rowers.”

Louise Kingsley, British Rowing Director of Performance added: “The U19 squad performed well on their debuts in Munich and these five selected rowers have another opportunity to develop their international racing experience in Varese. I wish them the best of luck and look forward to seeing the results come in!”
