Every year British Rowing reviews its membership prices, adjusting them to reflect external factors like inflation and to ensure that the fees paid by the various tiers of members are fair and proportionate to all.

This year’s changes, effective from Tuesday, 1 May include a slight reduction in the price of adaptive rowing membership, and the merging of Under 14s and Under 18s membership into a single junior rowing membership tier.

All British Rowing Gold, Silver and Platinum members will continue to receive six issues of Rowing & Regatta magazine a year (worth £27), specialist rowing public liability and personal accident insurance (worth £37*), a monthly email newsletter and access to a range of British Rowing courses and workshops.

This year we’ve also added to our range of discounts for members at online and high street stores, and these now include 15% off at Runners Need, Cycle Surgery, Snow+Rock and Cotswold Outdoor, 10% off Hertz car and van hire worldwide, and up to 20% discount on WaterRower machines.

Gold and Platinum members are also able to enter, race in, and be insured for any of the 234 British Rowing affiliated competitions across the country. Following the launch of our new British Rowing Competition Framework, these members now benefit from an online Personal Ranking Index and racing history.

Who will be affected by the price changes?

We are reducing the price of adaptive membership slightly, with these members receiving a 50% discount on British Rowing Gold Adult membership. Currently, British Rowing affiliated competitions do not always offer the same provision of races for adaptive rowers as able-bodied rowers and therefore we want the pricing to more fairly reflect their opportunities to race. We aim, in the future, for there to be more opportunities for racing as this area of the sport grows.

Going forward there will be a single Junior membership tier, with Junior 14s membership brought in line with Junior 18s pricing. As with adaptive racing rowers, all junior rowers will benefit from a 50% discount on the full price of Gold Adult membership. As the cost of administrating and delivering Gold membership is a fixed cost, irrespective of the age of the member, this move ensures that one membership tier is not unfairly subsidising another.

Gold Adult, Gold Student, Gold Under 18s and Silver membership fees will all be increased slightly.

Annual membership prices are recommended to, and ultimately approved by, the British Rowing Board.

What’s next for British Rowing membership?

The existing British Rowing membership offer is over 10 years old, which is why we are reviewing the current offer and looking at how we can evolve it to provide an even better experience for our members. Keep an eye out for more exciting news about this in the coming months.

As in previous years, we will be sharing a British Rowing membership survey again in late September and would welcome your input. This helps us to understand and keep improving the membership package for you, year on year.

We know that price increases are never welcome but, as always, we are extremely grateful for your continued membership.  British Rowing is a not-for-profit organisation and the revenue raised from membership goes back into supporting the rowing community, the sport’s administration, development and governance, helping to sustain and grow rowing for more people to enjoy, now and in the future.
