Insurance for rowers and coxes

As an individually registered member* of British Rowing, you receive the benefit of Public Liability insurance and Personal Accident cover to protect you whilst participating in rowing.

Public Liability covers the cost of defending yourself against a claim for damages if you’re held responsible for injury to someone else or damage to their property. British Rowing members will only be required to pay the excess for the claim.

Insurance for coaches

If you are a coach or coach educator, your British Rowing Coach membership gives you the benefit of Public Liability Insurance and Personal Accident cover to protect you whilst coaching or educating coaches in rowing. As a coach you also benefit from Professional Indemnity Insurance to protect you in your role.

The Public Liability policy covers the cost of defending yourself against a claim for damages if you’re held responsible for injury to someone else or damage to their property. Professional Indemnity insurance covers you if you are deemed to cause injury or damage through your coach instruction,  provided that the activity falls within the remit of your British Rowing approved training or qualifications. British Rowing Coach members will only be required to pay the excess for the claim.

Insurance for Umpires

British Rowing Umpire membership gives you the benefit of Public Liability Insurance, Professional Indemnity Insurance and Personal Accident cover to protect you whilst umpiring rowing.

The Public Liability policy covers the cost of defending yourself against a claim for damages if you’re held responsible for injury to someone else or damage to their property as a result of your umpiring, Professional Indemnity insurance covers you if you are deemed to cause injury or damage through your umpire instruction provided that the activity falls within the remit of your British Rowing approved training or qualifications. British Rowing Umpire members will only be required to pay the excess for the claim.

Insurance for competitions

When arranging any competition you have a duty of care towards those taking part, including spectators. Public Liability insurance protects the organisers of British Rowing affiliated competitions that are compliant with British Rowing Rules, RowSafe and are individually approved by British Rowing.

Insurance for clubs

Clubs need to ensure that all their activities and assets are protected by insurance. This includes:

  • Adequate cover for the clubhouse and equipment. We recommend that clubs hold a minimum of £10m liability cover.
  • Liability insurance that caters for the full range of activities that they as a club and a committee undertake including any volunteers who support club operations.

Standard Club Affiliation does not include any insurance. Club Affiliation Plus includes liability insurance. Visit our Insurance Hub for full details.

You can obtain information about further covers Marsh Sport provides for buildings, craft and equipment by contacting them on 0345 872 5060.

Club Insurance webinar with Marsh Sport

This webinar, hosted by British Rowing and Marsh Sport, provides more information about the club combined liability cover available as part of Club Affiliation Plus.

Personal Accident Benefit

Personal accident cover is a benefit provided to British Rowing members* up to the age of 85 that can be claimed on if a member injures themselves or are injured by someone or something else while rowing.

We recognise that an accident can impact your mental health as well as causing physical injuries, for example, witnessing or suffering a serious injury during training or racing. Your Personal Accident policy covers mental health counselling with an appropriately medically qualified practitioner, should this be recommended by your GP or a medical professional. If this is the case, please make contact with Marsh Sport directly. There is no need for you to pay upfront as billing is made centrally by our insurers to the qualified counsellors.

Headline benefits from the personal accident cover can be found on the Insurance Hub. British Rowing members will only be required to pay the excess for the claim.
