Team GBR 8 fastest crew at World University Rowing Championships today.  BUCS Rowing send an update:

The Men’s 8 representing Great Britain at the World University Championships in Szeged Hungary was the fastest crew during their heat on the opening day of the competition. Leading their race from the start, they continued to extend their lead ahead of strong opposition from France and Ireland, finishing in a time of 5:35.  This puts the crew straight to Sunday morning’s A final.

The Women’s coxless four also had an impressive race, rowing through the strong Dutch opposition to win in 6:43 and also put them straight through to the A final. The experienced lightweight Women’s double scull of Laura Greenalgh and Andrea Dennis who won a silver in the lightweight quad at last year’s Senior World Rowing Championships in Poland comfortably dispatched opposition from Germany, Switzerland and Italy to finish in an impressive 7:08.

The lightweight Men’s four also won their heat having rowed through the French opposition just before the halfway mark and then extended their lead towards the finish to a 5 second win over the French and 13 seconds ahead of the Canadians.
