Monica Relph
Monica has this year been selected for the women's four at the 2010 World U23 Championships in Brest, Belarus.
She won a gold medal in the women's eight at the 2009 World U23 Championships in Racice. This was a strong achievement by the crew who led from the first stroke. Although the US closed a little in the dying strokes of the race, the result was never in doubt and GB had its first ever gold in this class - the outcome of a long term strategy to build this project. Last year Monica also raced at the Banyoles World Cup in the second GB women's pair finishing 5th and in the women's eight at the European Championships in Belarus.
She has been part of the GB Rowing Teams's Start programme, sponsored by Siemens, having been identified in 2005. She began rowing at Rob Roy Boat Club under the guidance of Mary McLachlan and Adrian Cassidy.
In 2008 she represented GB at the FISU World University Rowing Championships in Belgrade, finishing in 4th place in the women's four.
Monica played netball and hockey while at school although she admits she does not come from a sporty background. She would like to stay involved in sport by getting a job in it when she is older. Her pastimes include films, music, cooking and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys riding her motorbike, a Suzuki, when she is at home.
Monica has just graduated in Sports Science from Loughborough University.
